Are you using these LinkedIn hacks?

Did you know that there’s a way for you to increase the chances of your target audience finding you if they do a search on Linkedin or even on google?

You may not be aware of this but if you’re looking to leverage your LinkedIn profile to grow your community of perfect customers, this is one of  the platform’s most important features.

Today, I want to talk about one thing a lot of people don’t know – how to take advantage of LinkedIn URLs.

You might not know this, but LinkedIn allows you to edit your public profile URL.

They do this to help promote your profile and allow others to easily identify you in search results- either inside LinkedIn or in search engines such as Google and Bing.

Here’s how you can maximise this feature— by using your search keywords instead of just your name.

Here’s why...

Your default linkedin URL would usually end with your name. It should look like this  linkedin.com/in/yourname

That’s awesome if you’re famous and if people already know you- they might search for you name,

But when people need help with a problem or looking for a solution to a problem, they don’t really search for names on Google. I know I don’t.

People search for keywords and phrases.

So think about the keywords that your potential client would have to type in to find you.

I’d recommend that you always go with your WHAT and even add in where you’re located as your URL.

For example, you can use keywords such as design-agency-london, brand-strategist, or amsterdam-packaging-design in place of your name in the url.

From an SEO perspective, this should help increase traffic to your profile. And as long as your profile is set to public, you’ll be more visible to prospects who are in need of your help.

Here’s how...

A few things to note with LinkedIn URLs:

  • Custom public profile URLs are available on a first come, first serve basis
  • Your custom URL can have 5-30 letters or numbers. Don't use spaces, symbols, or special characters.
  • You can only have one custom public profile URL at a time.
  • You can change your URL up to five times within six months
